The Great BLOG Blog of 2021

Paula Folz Writer

How meta

It’s true, this is the all-you-need-to-know blog about blogs! Read on to see why exactly they’re so important, how they can have huge impacts on how you connect with your audience and potential customers – and some easy steps to take your blogging to a higher level.

There is so much going on right now, so much to think about when it comes to your business and moving into the new year – you’re forgiven for thinking that creating and maintaining a blog is a daunting commitment you just don’t need right now.

But we’re here to tell you that a solid, well-maintained blog is one of the most cost-effective business tools at your disposal. Here are just a few of the benefits that blogging can bring to your business, and how to get maximum return on your content writing efforts.

Drive traffic

Current, relevant content gives people a reason to visit your site. Remember that the more people engage with your website and gain knowledge about your brand, company, product and/or service, the more likely these visits will convert into sales.

Become known as the expert

Blog posts are a powerful way of demonstrating knowledge and building trust as an expert. You want your readers to know that you truly understand your industry and their needs.

Time-effective

Yes, writing decent content can be intimidating and takes time. However, keep in mind that one super solid piece of content can be posted to your blog, shared on social media and can generate thousands of mouse clicks in a matter of hours or days.

Okay, so how do you actually get the best results from your blog?

Have a strategy

You’ve got to start with a little self-reflection. If you don’t clearly know what your end goal is, how can you possibly get there?

Let’s get started on your plan.

First, take some time to answer the following questions:

  • What you want to achieve from your blog and who are you writing it for (who is your target audience)?
  • What kind of commitment are you prepared to make? Pick a doable number of scheduled posts per week or month – write it down and stick to it!
  • Choose a content strategy. What kinds of topics will you cover and what resources do you need to write about them with authority, while bringing in your own unique insights?

Whatever blog strategy you develop, to really upgrade your blog writing, remember that your overarching goal is to add value for customers. That means being informative, relevant and keeping self-promotion to a minimum. Also, salesy copy and tacky grandiose lingo will put people off.

Key Kinetic advice:

Choose quality over quantity

Deliver value. Before you start writing your blog, write down the purpose of your blog. Once you’ve finished your post, back check it against your goal. Is it going to be informational, purely to educate? Is there good, strong information and data? Or maybe your whole goal is to get people to download a white paper or case study – did you tell people exactly why they should read it (what’s in it for them) and do you have a clear call to action?

Write for real people

Show your personality and don’t be afraid of humor. Typically, blogs should be conversational, convincing, and even somewhat entertaining. Write as if you’re sharing something interesting or discussing an important topic with your sister or best friend. Write with the confidence of knowing the ideas that you are putting into the world are worth reading and will benefit people – and do it all with easy to understand and digestible language.

Write a Killer Headline

As a blogger, remember that your headline is what will get visitors to your site, so you’ve got to capture their attention.

In some ways, your headline is more important than your actual post! Even if your content is the most amazing thing ever, if it’s lurking behind a boring headline, no one will ever see it. So how do you this?

To start out, experiment! Try something surprising, funny or really compelling. Notice your own habits, what kinds of headlines grab your interest?

Develop a handful, pick your top three favorites and share your post multiple times with different headlines and see which style works best. You will learn a lot – and this step is soooo worth it.

Write a memorable opening and closer

A captivating opening and an inspirational or really cool closing will make an impact on your readers. I feel the best opening promises readers that you’re going to help them solve a problem so they feel encouraged to read on. Storytelling is a great philosophy, but just clearly laying out the perceived pain point and guaranteeing you’ve got the solution is good too.

Your closing, whether inspirational, humorous or surprising is what will thrust your readers into action—when they experience the difference your advice or content makes for them, they start to see you differently, as an authority and someone to be trusted.
