An Epic Weekend Remembered… Kinetic Retreat 2022

When it comes to company retreats, I know what you’re probably thinking: trust falls and motivational speakers. But these team-building trips can so much deeper than that. The truth is, regardless of how big or small your company is, well-planned, activity-packed and fun retreats have the ability to totally re-energize your team, encourage cross-departmental/discipline collaboration and strengthen internal bonds and relationships.

Not only are retreats inherently worth investing in, there’s also evidence that retreats can have a direct impact on employee satisfaction and retention.

Seeing Another Side of the Team

Company retreats are also great ways to discover things you didn’t know about your team and coworkers. Maybe a graphic designer is also an incredible chef or a project manager is actually an accomplished fly fisherwoman!! Getting away from the daily grind gives team members the chance to unwind and discover more about one another, tell and create stories and share memorable and meaningful experiences.

For Kinetic’s recent retreat, we carpooled to beautiful Island Park, Idaho, and rented two luxurious lakeside cabins. The first night we had a fancy dinner in West Yellowstone and “attempted” to behave ourselves (😊) because we knew we had an early morning ahead.

Gone Fishin’

Up and at it by 7 a.m., we broke into small groups and met our fly fishing guides! Each group went to one of the many blue-ribbon fly fishing streams in the area, and a few of us even got to go into Yellowstone Park! There were a few Kinetic-ers who already had a lot of experience and talent in the fly fishing arena — but for the majority of us, it was totally new experience!

After some lunch and much needed R&R, we were at it again! We all came back together at the larger of the two cabins where we were treated to the culinary genius of designer Jarrod and content strategist/copywriter Rob as well as Dana’s legendary mixology amazingness — gourmet tacos, homemade salsas, magazine-worthy elote street corn and magical margaritas!

Then the best part… we were each given mysterious pieces of paper with our names on them (one for each year we’d been with Kinetic as we found out later). These were entered into a random drawing for the first ever Kinetic “See the World Prize” with the only stipulation being that whoever won it had to spend it on a taking a trip somewhere amazing! And the winner was… project manager Erika!! She’s been with us nine years and is an incredible asset, talent and friend. Much deserved!!

A Team that Plays Together, Stays Together

You see your co-workers every day, but spending a couple days away with them, talking, eating, preparing meals and karaoke-ing brings you so much closer. The thing is, teams that act like a family tend to have better communication, enhanced trust and a deeper appreciation for one another.
