Marketing Copywriter
The Copywriter is a pivotal member of the creative team, responsible for crafting compelling and strategic copy across diverse media channels, including digital, print, broadcast, and out-of-home. Collaborating closely with art directors and the creative director, this role is instrumental in developing concepts that elevate client brands and drive measurable results.
Reports to the creative director.
Overall Responsibilities:
- Concept Development: Collaborate with creative teams to develop high-impact campaigns aligned with client objectives across various platforms.
- Advertising Copy: Write headlines, taglines, and body copy for ads across mediums like print, digital, TV, radio, and social media.
- Sales Copy: Craft copy that builds brand awareness, communicates product benefits and drives engagement and sales.
- Email Copy: Create persuasive and engaging email copy that drives conversions or engagement.
- Brand Development Copy: Strategizes brand development copywriting for clients across multiple industries.
- Primary Research: Research client industries and audiences to produce accurate, on-target copy for all projects.
- Script Development: Developing scripts for video, TV, or audio commercials, ensuring messages align with the campaign’s goals.
- Digital Copywriting: Stay ahead of digital copywriting best practices to craft copy for websites, landing pages and digital ads with an understanding of SEO and keyword integration.
- Editing: Proofread and edit copy at all stages to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Internal Marketing:Contribute to internal marketing efforts, including proposals, agency blogs and newsletters.
Brand Development Duties
- Brand Voice and Tone: Define and maintain a consistent voice and tone for client brands across all channels.
- Mission and Vision Statements: Collaborate on the articulation of the brand’s purpose, goals, and aspirations.
- Brand Messaging: Create taglines, value propositions, and key messaging frameworks.
- Guidelines Development: Contribute to brand guidelines, ensuring clear usage for voice and language.
- Content Strategy: Supporting the creation of a content strategy aligned with brand objectives.
- Website Copy: Write compelling homepage, about us, and service/product descriptions.
- Long-form Content: Develop whitepapers, case studies, blogs, or articles to establish thought leadership and deepen audience engagement.
- Internal Communication: Create internal materials like training manuals or brand guideline materials to align the team with the brand identity.
Qualifications and Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Experience
- 3–5 years of professional copywriting experience, preferably in a marketing, advertising, or creative agency setting.
- Proven track record of developing effective and engaging copy across various media platforms (e.g., digital, print, social, broadcast).
- Experience working collaboratively with creative teams, such as art directors and designers, on concept development and execution.
- Demonstrated success in creating campaigns that meet or exceed client objectives.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in writing for diverse formats, including web, print, social media, email campaigns and more.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices for content creation and optimization.
- Proficient in using tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management platforms (e.g., Basecamp, Workamajig, or similar).
- Basic understanding of design and layout software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus but not required.
Understanding of Best Practices
- Deep knowledge of marketing and advertising principles, including audience segmentation, brand voice and storytelling techniques.
- A copywriter in this role must balance creative storytelling with strategic thinking, ensuring all written content reinforces brand identity while achieving campaign objectives.
- Awareness of current trends and best practices in content creation for various platforms, including emerging digital and social media formats.
- Ability to adapt tone, style and messaging for different clients, industries and target audiences.
- Strong grasp of AP Style or other copy-editing standards.
Soft Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, capable of working across departments and with external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Creative problem-solver with a strategic mindset and a passion for storytelling.
Bonus Skills
- Experience in scriptwriting or crafting storyboards for video or broadcast.
- Knowledge of UX writing and content strategy principles.
