For When You Need Summer Campaign Inspiration
Megan Pullins Digital Director
It’s mid-summer, and we are knee deep in summer marketing campaigns. Every season brings unique opportunities to connect with your audience, and summer is no exception. It’s the season of sunshine, bright colors, sparkling pools, baseball, summer camp, family time and sweet, refreshing drinks. School is out, and everyone is in the mood to play.
With the spirit of summer in the air, we immediately had two clients in mind: City Brew Coffee and Recreational Adventures Company (RAC) — the largest franchise of KOA properties.
Classic Summer Campaign Ideas
Nearly any company can play with summer campaigns in their social media and email marketing creative.
A few quick and easy summer campaigns are:
- Graduation
- School’s out for summer
- Memorial Day

- Summer solstice
- Fourth of July
- Christmas in July
- Labor Day
City Brew Coffee – the Summer of Soda (and Chargers!)
Our favorite coffee shop in Montana (Wyoming and the Dakotas), City Brew Coffee, crafts a new selection of drink specials for every season. This year’s mouth watering drinks for the summer season were all about sodas and chargers with fun flavor combinations. The kind of drinks that are perfect for a hot summer day when you need something sweet, refreshing and with a little energy.
The Summer Menu Design Process
For the summer marketing campaign, the design inspiration was based on last year’s “Adventure Charger” promo but with an updated twist. This year, City Brew decided to add Coke and Sprite as base options for their fizzy drinks in addition to their usual charger (caffeinated) base, along with five flavors to choose from and three different ways of enjoying your drink (iced, with cream or blended). We had the challenge of coming up with a way to educate the customer on all the different options they had for customizing their drinks in a simple and straightforward way on one or two menu panels. The color palette was inspired by the colors of the drinks, which are rich, vibrant and very summery.
Since launching, City Brew Coffee customers are better educated about the fun drink combinations that they can create, alongside the delicious featured “Dreamsicle” summer flavor.
Adventuring Farther on Facebook for RAC KOA Campsites
Summer is the most critical time for the Recreation Adventures Company (RAC). RAC operates 12 independent KOA campgrounds across the nation from Washington, D.C. and New York City (yes, there is camping north of there!) through the Rocky Mountains in northern Colorado and the golden plains of Iowa to the sands of the Pacific Northwest.
Since summertime is the prime tourist season, it’s vital for RAC to keep their campsites top of mind for summer campers! The Kinetic marketing team crafted a social media strategy to showcase nine select RAC campsites each week to tens of thousands of potential happy campers.
The Summer Social Media Marketing Strategy
The creative team crafted a series of well-designed social media posts that featured key selling points for each location to post every week. The digital marketing team then boosted these posts to each location’s target audience to “boost” the reach of each post from hundreds of people to tens of thousands of people, generating hundreds of clicks to each of their campsite reservation pages.
Reach is the number of people who see a post. Impressions, similar to reach, are the number of times a post enters a person’s screen. By consistently posting to Facebook, then boosting well designed and written content that resonates with RAC’s target audience, we are able to generate hundreds of visitors to their campground reservation pages every week, while widening brand awareness during the summer season.
